Likely the most recognizable name in all of history, and certainly a controversial figure. Jesus Christ, born to a no-name family in a no-name place, a long, long time ago. The reason you’ve heard of him is that he claimed to be God, and many people since have dared to agree with him.
It’s been said that if “all the things that Jesus did were written down one by one, the world itself wouldn’t be able to contain the books that would be written.” Yet we’ve tried. Countless books have been written, and endless words have been said. Yet one collection of books stands above them all.
We believe that the Bible, one book made up of 66 smaller ones, tells the story of God. It faithfully points the reader to Jesus Christ, and everything in it comes to life in light of him. When we get together to worship, we read the Bible to hear what Jesus said of himself, what others said of him, and we dare to believe that what they all say is true.
Jesus showed us what God is like, and in turn, what it looks like to live a human life completely devoted to God. The way of life, the way of love.
Following Jesus in 2026 looks like the way an apprentice would learn how to wield a tool or weave a fabric. We listen to our teacher and follow him where he goes. Said differently, we be with Jesus, become like him, and then do as he did.
Do you want to join the journey? There are groups of Jesus followers all around you wherever you are. We practice following the way here in Niagara, meeting every Sunday at 10:30am. You are welcome with us.
Most importantly, Jesus confessed that he is the son of God (Matthew 26:63). He used many other word pictures to illuminate his divinity. He referred to himself as the light of the world (John 8:12), the giver of life (John 10:28), and the good shepherd who cares for his sheep (John 10:11). He revealed himself to be the saviour of the world, the healer of hearts, and the door to salvation.
The books in the Bible that follow Jesus life, death, and resurrection all full of testimonies from people who knew him or heard of him. He is called the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15), the forgiver of sins (Acts 13:38) and the full nature of God in human flesh (Philippians 2:8). In addition to what the Bible says, many people have affirmed over thousands of years that Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead, and because he did, so will we.
We agree with the testimony of the scriptures. Jesus Christ is the full revelation of what God is like. We also believe that God is revealed to us daily in the setting sun, the refugee, a baby’s first breath, and our enemy.
If the story of this man has piqued your interest, we’d love to chat with you. No question is off limits and there’s always a real pastor on the other end of the line. Ask us anything that’s on your mind, or join us in person as we journey with Jesus together.
